Community

Being a Youth Pastor I organize many gatherings and often end up facilitating it. When do I get to go to a gathering that I don't organize or lead and that I get the benefit of actually finding community?

This Generation

I am puzzeled with youth today. I struggle to understand them and to relate to them and to help them. This generation seems to be a interverted generation. They have more technology today than they can handle. It is amazing how fast the world is changing. My world is changing which is North America. We seem to lead the rest of the world in home electronics. But looking just at my small world here in Victoria, I struggle to watch these young people spend so much time on computers and computer games. To me they are accomplishing nothing but interverted nerds. The problem is they live in a false or make belief world when on the net in some chat room or IMing someone. There is no real connection with individuals anymore. When I see young people away from their computers, cellphones, ipods and psp's they don't know how to interact with each other. They stand around like a bunch of dead zombies wondering how long before they can go back to their security blankets. So what do we do? How do I embrace it or help change it? I would IM more but then they don't know my emotions my silly joking around because they just get some weird spelling of a word and text back something even stranger. I try to spend time with young people away from their gadgets but our conversation seems so dry. I need a fresh idea that would attract the young people to want to be a part of it.
