How would money change you?
So, what would you do if you won the lottery? Over night you were a millionaire! Would it change you? Would you go to work the next day or would you quit? This past week we had a discussion at Youth Group about money. I had mentioned how I bought a lottery ticket. I guess the way I was telling the story I left enough suspense that people thought I had one the millions. I didn't win a thing and that is why I don't usually buy lottery tickets because I do better putting that $2 bucks or in this case $10 in the bank. Let me go back to this discussion. When they asked if I had won, I said, "Do you think I would be standing here right now if I won?" To which my friend and youth leader asked me, "What about the call? Aren't you called to be here?" That caught me off guard, not his reaction but my reaction. Would I really quit my job as a Pastor because I won a million dollars? Isn't it true that I am called to my position? So why did I say what I did? Because maybe money does change us.
I have spent the last couple of days thinking about it. I just finished reading an article in TIME magazine about 3 guys who started YouTube and how they sold it to GOOGLE for 1.5.. billion dollars. Over night they were rich! Again, here I am thinking is that what I want? I mean, who doesn't want a comfortable amount of money to live and be able to afford a few nice toys and a vacation once in a while?
Well now I am left with my dilemma, am I called to be a Pastor? If I could say that I would leave my job for the right amount of money, am I here for the right reasons?
It is amazing what comes out of your mouth sometimes and how you have to back up your words.
I know I have said I was called to full-time ministry as a Pastor. This has not nor does not change. I guess what I need to answer is, is it for life or a season? And if it is for a season, then is it time to move on?
In the meantime, maybe you will ask yourself the same question about what would happen if you came into a large amount of money.
